The MRA held its 56th Annual General Meeting on Saturday, July 15th, 2017 at the Port Carling Community Centre. A crowd of approximately 90 individuals heard two minute presentations from the Township of Muskoka Lakes Fire Department, the Muskoka Watershed Council, the West Muskoka Food Bank, the Nursing Stations and Safe Quiet Lakes. Five minutes was allocated to Kurt Muntz the founder of “Bubbler Buddy” a custom bubbler containment system. Mayor Furniss kindly spoke at the meeting, introduced councillors in attendance, as well as former Mayor Susan Pryke. In support of Mayor Furniss and the Mayor’s of Georgian Bay and Lake of Bays, the MRA circulated a petition regarding the OPP costing model for those who wished to sign it.
The MRA was proud to award two bursaries to a student from each Bracebridge Muskoka Lakes High School and Gravenhurst High School.
Following the “business” portion of the meeting those in attendance heard from 2 great speakers:
- Howard Smith from Aspen Valley Animal Sanctuary speak about nuisance animals – see Living With Wildlife for a copy of his presentation.
- Quinn Michell entertained us with her presentation on garbage and recycling in the District of Muskoka see Waste Diversion for a copy of her presentation
Just prior to the completion of the meeting President Liz Denyar was presented with a Canada 150 certificate for her dedication to her community by Past President Peter Long.
